Built in 1915 by order of the Accademia delle Scienze, Lettere e Belle Arti of the Zelantei and of the Dafnici of Acireale, the picture-gallery has its home in three big halls; in the others there is the Zelantea Library, founded in 1671, one of the richest in Sicily. The picture-gallery contains paintings, drawings, engravings, sculptures, ceramics, Sicilian artisanal wood works, archeological findings, coins, collection of shells and minerals and war relics. In particular in hall 1 you can see a colossal head of Giuseppe Garibaldi, plaster figure by Michele La Spina; a plaster bust by the painter Giuseppe Sciuti and numerous drawings by famous school-masters such as Guido Reni, Luca Giordano, Salvator Rosa, Vito D'Anna, Domenico Morelli.
